May 3, 2016, Los Angeles, CA - AWOL, event and project space, is pleased to present a one person exhibition, “In Between” by Lisa Diane Wedgeworth.
In this exhibition, Wedgeworth examines the real and perceptual differences between her own body, and the bodies of other women. The show will also explore the descriptive language that is often used to
qualify those bodies from a distinctly male perspective.

A single channel video with Wedgeworth's own nude body, and that of a very young woman's, as well as a much older woman's body, will be displayed. The video frames the body parts of the women caressing and massaging themselves, for an observing audience.

An installation of pedestals will display objects that men have used to reference Wedgeworth’s body specifically and the female body generally.  Upon one pedestal rests a book where visitors are encouraged to write about their own bodies, thoughts about age, and responses to the exhibition.
Wedgeworth’s studio practice is rooted in storytelling. Her work is informed by both private and public, personal and collective memories.  She makes paintings that become abstract metaphors for
human experiences and employ video as meditations on memory, identity and relationships."

“In Between” opening reception Saturday, May 21st, 2016, 7-10 pm. On View through June 19th, 2016 at AWOL 4937 Alhambra Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90032.
